"I am in exile, my own internal self... Adam's sin was that he became alienated from his own personality... and he thereby lost his own identity. He did not know how to clearly answer the question of where he was... In this way, the world sinks deeper and deeper, and everybody's true identity is lost... The spirit of our souls, the Divine Mashiach... is not external to us, it is in fact our own spirit. We will seek our G-d and our King David... We will seek our internal identities, we will seek our own selves, and we will succeed..." [The Search for Our Own Selves, Rabbi A.Y. Kook, Holy Ethics, Chapter 97].

"And G-d created man in His image, in the image of G-d He created him" [Bereishit 1:27].

The above verse is the Bible's summary of the creation of man. It means that every human being in the world has been promised that he or she possesses an "image," or in other words "something" that is Divine. At a deeper level, it is very good indeed that not all the skills in the world were given to a single person or at a single moment in the course of history. In this way, everybody is able to "take advantage" of the talents of their colleagues and friends...

A story is told about a man who rode an aged horse when he went to a nearby village. On the way, his horse fell into a deep pit. The man's friends advised him to bury the horse where he was. When they began to throw earth into the pit, they could hear the horse's cries of complaint. The men shoveled earth into the pit to cover the horse, but then they were surprised when they looked down to see the horse shaking the earth off its back and climbing onto the mound of earth. Within a short time, the horse climbed out of the pit ... to freedom.

This folk tale teaches us that every problem has a solution, and that there are times when we can transform the problem itself into a solution!! In our yeshiva, the students learn how to utilize their own positive skills, which are vital and full of energy, taking advantage of them to become future leaders of the renewed nation of Israel in its own land.
